This listing is for the hard-core "slab and cab" lapidarists of the rockhound world for magnificent polished pieces. The dramatic translucent agate combined with moss, tan, and black markings and the consistent hard rock make it one of the most popular rocks in the US West. Rocks of this quality would be listed at $50 or more at Ebay. Search for Montana Agate Rough and see for yourself.

These sweet rocks are from the Yellowstone River highlands in Montana. My dad picked this up over fifty years ago. Finding a rock like this today would be like winning the lottery.

Montana Agate has all tumbled down the Yellowstone River for a few hundred miles. and that usually eliminates the cracked and weak rocks. These are good examples. You can expect these rocks to yield fantastic cabs.

My theory is that Montana Agate weathered out of formations that don't even exist today. Since they came from distant and different places, they're not all the same. The only really common feature is that they're all river rounded and they usually have a white coating deposited during those millenia in the river that makes it hard to see what's actually inside.

The rocks that "Chris from Washington State" polished are a good example. When I shipped these rocks to Chris, I had no idea they would look like this on the inside. Montana's are a "surprise package".

The first five pictures are the actual rocks you will get. The other pictures are examples of other Montana Agates I have shipped to other customers.

You get all the rocks if you order this listing. If you don't want to buy that many, or you want to see pictures of other rocks ... send me a message and we'll work out the exact deal you want.

I was just a kid when my dad picked these up. If you're interested in reading about what that was like, I've written the story at my blog page here:  Check it out.
