Rare Rock from Pikes Peak in Colorado
I have a few chunks of a blue green rock in the collection I inherited from my dad. When I first started KinesavaROCKS, I had NO idea what it was. But now I do. It turns out that it's a rock called Amazonite. According to Geology.com, "The gem was first named “Amazon stone”, after the Amazon River - although there are no known occurrences near that river". There are pictures of polished cabs there too. If you like turquoise or jade, check them out. The type I have is the "cross hatched pattern".
I was confused by this rock because it's not agate or jasper because I can recognize those rocks. I can recognize those rocks. According to Geology.com, "It is a variety of microcline, a potassium-rich member of the feldspar mineral group. Amazonite is commonly found in granitic pegmatites, which are coarse-grained igneous rocks."
This is one of the rocks in my dad's collection that other sites are selling at a fantastic price. I'm not. The "Mission Statement" of KinesavaROCKS is, "I'm not really in business. I'm just having fun with my dad's rocks." Read my blog about what I know about this rock: "What is Amazonite?".
